Selection should also consider whether the exposure is continuous or short-cycle, peak temperature, dwell time, number of cycles, substrate, process chemicals, electrical requirements, mechanical load, residue sensitivity, and removal conditions. A tape used for a short powder-coating bake is not automatically suitable for continuous service on heated equipment or as part of an electrical insulation system. The suitable tape family depends on what the tape must do. Polyimide tapes are commonly evaluated for electronics masking, higher-temperature processing, and electrical insulation.
