PTFE Glass Cloth Tape vs PTFE Film Tape: Which One Fits Heat Sealing Better?

For most continuous heat sealing lines, PTFE glass cloth tape is the safer starting point because the glass cloth backing gives better dimensional stability, wear resistance, and edge strength. It is commonly used on sealing bars, heated jaws, rollers, and packaging equipment where the tape must withstand repeated pressure, film contact, and cleaning cycles.

PTFE film tape is different. Its skived PTFE film surface is smoother and more flexible, which can be useful on small heated tools, curved surfaces, mandrels, or areas where a smoother release surface is more important than long service life. The trade-off is that pure PTFE film tape normally has lower mechanical reinforcement than PTFE-coated glass cloth tape, so it may wear faster on high-speed or abrasive sealing lines.

A practical rule is simple: choose PTFE glass cloth tape when downtime, abrasion, and repeated sealing pressure are the main concerns. Choose PTFE film tape when smooth release, flexibility, or low surface texture matters more. PET silicone tape should be treated as a lower-temperature auxiliary option, not the main tape for continuous high-temperature sealing bars.
