Matte Black Polyimide Tape is made with a black polyimide (PI) film backing coated with a high-temperature silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA). It is designed for masking, insulation, and protection applications where heat resistance, dimensional stability, and a low-glare surface are important.
Compared with gloss black or standard amber polyimide tape, the matte black finish provides lower reflectivity, which can help reduce unwanted glare in inspection-sensitive and light-shielding applications. It is also suitable for high-temperature processing environments where electrical insulation and masking accuracy are required.

Residue After Heat Aging
- Cause: long dwell time at temperature, sensitive substrates, or unsuitable removal conditions
- Prevention: qualify by peak temperature, dwell time, substrate type, and removal conditions; peel slowly at a low angle; run a sample trial for coated, cosmetic, or sensitive surfaces
Edge Lift During Curing or Reflow
- Cause: poor surface preparation, incorrect thickness choice, insufficient application pressure
- Prevention: clean and dry the surface thoroughly; select a suitable thickness; apply firm pressure to improve contact before heat exposure
Wrong Finish Selection
- Matte black is preferred where lower reflectivity matters.
- Gloss black is easier to see on busy masking lines but may reflect more.
For glare-sensitive or light-shielding builds, matte black should be validated in the real application.
