Silicone Polyimide Tape(K-620)
High-Temperature PI Film Tape with Silicone Adhesive for Wave Solder Masking, Powder Coating Masking, and Electrical Insulation
For Wave Solder Masking, Powder-Coating Masking & Electrical Insulation
Silicone Polyimide Tape is made with a polyimide (PI) film backing and a high-temperature silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA). It is used in high-temperature masking and electrical insulation applications where dimensional stability, heat resistance, and reliable adhesion are required, especially in PCB solder masking, powder coating masking, and selected electrical manufacturing processes.
Typical formats: small rolls, log/jumbo rolls, sheets, and die-cut parts for production.
Key Features & Benefits
High-temperature silicone PSA for demanding masking and electrical insulation processes
High-temperature masking capability for demanding process windows; suitability depends on peak temperature, dwell time, and process conditions. Please confirm with the TDS for your exact grade.
PI film backing provides excellent dimensional stability and electrical insulation at elevated temperatures
Good shear holding for secure masking and fixation during thermal cycles
Converting-ready supply: slitting, rolls, sheets, and die-cut shapes available
Standard color: amber/brown. Black polyimide tape for selected light-blocking applications may be available upon request
Typical Applications
PCB Assembly & Electronics

- Dielectric breakdown: ASTM D149
Silicone vs Acrylic Polyimide Tape
| Decision Factor | Silicone Polyimide Tape | Acrylic Polyimide Tape |
| Best for | Higher-temperature masking windows & solder masking | Non-silicone requirements, general electrical tape use cases |
| Temperature positioning | Often selected for higher-temperature masking profiles and solder masking applications
| Commonly used in lower-temperature Class F or similar process windows, depending on grade |
| Contamination sensitivity | Some customers restrict silicone in coating/bonding lines | Non-silicone acrylic grades are often used to reduce silicone contamination risk |
| Cost trend | Often higher for high-temp silicone PSA systems (depends on thickness/volume/converting) | Often lower for general acrylic PSA systems (depends on spec) |
Quick recommendation:
Choose silicone PI tape when your masking window includes higher peak temperatures or solder masking tasks.
Choose acrylic PI tape when your process has a strict “no silicone” requirement or your temperature window fits acrylic grades.
Common Failures to Avoid in Solder Masking
To reduce rework and scrap in wave solder masking, watch for these common issues:
- Edge Lift → Solder Leakage
Cause: insufficient surface preparation, incorrect tape width, or an overly aggressive thermal profile.
Prevention: clean and dry the substrate, apply firm pressure, and choose the correct thickness and masking geometry. - Adhesive Transfer After Heat Aging
Cause: excessive dwell time at high temperature, low-surface-energy substrates, or improper peel angle.
Prevention: validate the tape grade for your dwell time, peel slowly at a low angle, and run sample trials before production. - Mis-Masking Due to Dimensional Drift
Cause: masking materials with poor dimensional stability.
Prevention: use polyimide film constructions with stable backing and select the correct converting tolerance.
